Have you ever had a bad day?
I mean a really truly bad day, where from the moment your eyes popped open in the morning until you lay your head to rest at night everything and anything that could go wrong went wrong?
I’ve had a few of those, well, actually, more than a few!
Bad days not only test your sanity but stretch your faith thin. They wear on you, rubbing raw places in your heart that you had no idea were even there! Bad days make you want to hide from those perpetually cheerful people who make it their goal to ‘lift your spirit’. Bad days tend to bring out the worst in people, and honestly, Christians are not immune.
Have you ever met a grumpy Christian?
Yeah…me too.
Have you ever been a grumpy Christian?
Sigh. Yeah…me too.
Days like those can make you feel like you’ve failed as a Christian because being grumpy doesn’t fit the stereotype or the expectation. The way you react to your circumstances can, let’s face it, be less Christ-like than what it should be and honestly most people, including yourself, are quick to jump on the judgment wagon.
So what can a grumpy Christian do?
I think, for me, it helps to know that one bad day isn’t the end of the world, that my grumpiness on a particular day doesn’t define who I am in Christ. You see, God loves me. He loves me when I’m radiating Sonshine one moment and spitting nails the next. He’s always there for me, ready to forgive my grumpy tendencies and He will help me over the hurdle of a bad day.
Isaiah 41:10 tells us…”Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
That pretty much says it all. So tone it down grumpy Christian, one bad day isn’t the end of the world. Give it to God and let it go, because your grumpiness is not who you are.
