Don’t Let Your Good Deeds Hide Your Broken Heart

Who are you?

I mean really, deep down, who are you at your core? Are you kind, generous, loving…or mean, selfish and easily angered? And how would you know anyway?

Most of us are a mix of good and bad qualities, so generally we tend to think of ourselves as the good part and forget the bad, but really, if we are honest with ourselves, we are both.

The Bible says this in Proverbs 27:19…”As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.”

You see, even if we put on a ‘good deeds’ persona, our hearts will give us away. Who we are, who we really are, will always come out in the end. All it takes is a little bit of pressure, a bad day, circumstances out of our control, and suddenly who we truly are surges forward and we break, exposing how truly ugly we are.

But there is a remedy.

Even though our hearts are wicked (Jeremiah 17:9) and will lead us in the wrong direction (James 1:13-15) there is hope.

Jesus can heal our broken hearts. (John 14:6; Acts 14:12) Once our heart changes, who we are will change, and then we won’t have to pretend. Don’t let your good deeds hide your broken heart.
